UB Gymnastics Posts Season-High Team Total For Second Straight Week
Purple Knights Amass 194.525 Points At UNH Wildcat Invitational
Durham, N.H.-For the second straight week, the University of Bridgeport women's gymnastics team notched a season-high team score, as the Purple Knights post a team total of 194.525 points to take third place in the highly-competitive UNH Wildcat Invitational on Sunday afternoon hosted the University of New Hampshire. The host Wildcats won Sunday's competition with a score of 195.550. Towson University took second place with a score of 194.575 to just edge the Purple Knights, and Brown finished fourth with 192.150 points.
As a team, UB scored a season-high 48.725 on the beam, 48.925 in the floor exercise, 48.875 in the bars and 48.000 in the vault.
Junior Brianna Comport (Gilberstville, Pa.) had an outstanding meet for the Purple Knights winning floor exercise with a score of 9.875 and finishing in a tie for second on the balance beam with a score of 9.900. Classmate Ajiea Hargrave (Allentown, Pa.) tied for second in the floor exercise behind Comport with a score of 9.850.
Junior Kimberly Stewart (Eastham, Mass.) was the top Bridgeport finisher on the vault with a score of 9.700 to tie for second place, sophomore Kelsey Campbell (Las Vegas, Nev.) and junior Christine Liautaud (Cary, Illinois) were the Purple Knights' top finishers on the bars posting scores of 9.850 to tie for third place.
Campbell took third in Sunday's all-around, as she scored a total of 38.725 in the four events.
Up next, the UB women's gymnastics team will have a busy weekend of action hosting Southern Connecticut State on Friday night for Alumni Night at the Wheeler Recreation Center at 7:00 p.m. before traveling to Brown University on Sunday.
