Women's Gymnastics Opens 2016 Home Slate With 194.175-192.225 Dual Meet Win Over Cornell
194.175 Are A Season-High Score Through Four Meets
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's gymnastics team opened its 2016 home schedule in fine style on Sunday afternoon posting a season-high total of 194.175 points, as the Purple Knights defeated Cornell University in dual meet action, 194.175-192.225.
The Purple Knights won three of the four events on Sunday afternoon posting a 48.950 in the floor exercise, a 48.525 on the bars and a 48.200 in the vault. Cornell won the beam with a score of 48.775 to UB's 48.500.
On the vault, Bridgeport junior Ajiea Hargrave (Allentown, Pa.) took first place on the day with a score of 9.725, and teammates Rachel DiCarlo (Jr., Harleysville, Pa.), Hope Tralli (Jr., Croton-On-Hudson, N.Y) plus Kimberly Stewart (Jr., Eastham, Mass.) tied for third place, as they each posted a score of 9.625.
On the bars, the Purple Knights finished one-two, as junior Christine Liautaud (Cary, Ill.) took first place with a score of 9.825, and freshman Maritza Futch (Atlanta, Ga.) grabbed second place with a score of 9.775.
In the floor exercise, UB senior Randi Cutolo (S. Jordan, Utah) won the event with a score of 9.875. Freshman Brittany Capozzi (Derry, N.H.) grabbed second place for the Purple Knights on the floor with a score of 9.800, and Ajiea Hargrave and junior Brianna Comport (Gilberstville, Pa.) tied for third place with scores of 9.775.
On the balance beam, Comport and sophomore Carol Chiles (Fairfield, Calif.) tied for the top Bridgeport finish, as they each posted scores of 9.750, which tied them for fourth place.
In Sunday's all-around competition, UB's Kelsey Campbell (So., Las Vegas, Nev.) posted the top score with a total of 38.100 for the four events.
The University of Bridgeport women's gymnastics team is back in action next Sunday, February 7, when they travel to the University of New Hampshire for a quad meet that is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
