Purple Knights Take Second In 2015 USAG Team Final
UB Posts Team Score Of 194.675 To Finish Second Behind Lindenwood University
Philadelphia. Pa.-The University of Bridgeport women's gymnastics team took second place in the team finals of the 2015 USA Gymnastics Women's Collegiate National Championship meet on Saturday night in the Palestra on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania. The Purple Knights, who had won the previous six consecutive USAG Women's Collegiate National Team Titles, posted a team score of 194.675 to take second behind Lindenwood University of St. Charles. Missouri (195.500). Saturday's title is Lindenwood's first USAG National Team crown. Seattle Pacific University fished third on Saturday with a team score of 194.225, and Texas Women's University was fourth with a team score of 193.775.
UB led the event after two rotations posting scores of 49.025 in the floor exercise and 48.700 on the vault. In the final two rotations, the Purple Knights recorded a 48.275 on the bars and a 48.675 on the beam to close things out which allowed Lindenwood to edge the defending champions with their scores on the beam and the floor exercise.
UB's Sasha Tsikhanovich (Marysville, Ohio), who was named the Outstanding Senior Athlete by the USAG following Saturday's event, tied for first in the vault (9.875) and took first place in the floor exercise with a score of 9.925 at the team finals.
Classmate Caitlin Perry (N. Kingston, R.I.) took second place in the floor exercise with a score of 9.990.
On Sunday, UB will close out the 2015 USA Gymnastics Women's Collegiate National Championship meet with several Purple Knights competing in the individual event finals.
