Women's Gymnastics Opens 2015 Season With Quad Meet Win At Southern Connecticut State University
Purple Knights Post Season-Opening Record Team Score Of 192.000
New Haven, Conn.-The six-time USAG defending national team champion, University of Bridgeport women's gymnastics team opened its 2015 season on Saturday afternoon with a quad meet at Southern Connecticut State University. UB was joined on Saturday by the host Owls, as well as Brown University and Rhode Island College. Bridgeport took first place as a team posting a total of 192.000 points which the highest total ever posted by a Purple Knights' gymnastics team in a season-opening meet. Brown took second place on Saturday with 191.075 points, followed by the host team, SCSU, with 189.850 points and Rhode Island College was fourth with a total score of 175.375.
Bridgeport senior Sasha Tsikhanovich (Marysville, Ohio) got her 2015 off to a fine start winning three events, as he took first place in the floor exercise (9.850), on the bars (9.850) and on the vault (9.650), and she took second place in the all-around competition with a total score of 38.550 in Saturday's four events.
On the balance beam, UB sophomore Brianna Comport (Gilbertsville, Pa.) won the event with a score of 9.825, and classmate Hope Tralli (Croton-On-Hudson, N.Y.) took second place with a score of 9.750.
In the floor exercise, Bridgeport senior Caitlin Perry (N. Kingston, R.I.) took second place with a score of 9.750.
Up next for the UB women's gymnastics team is a trip down I-95 tomorrow, Sunday, January 18, to the University of Pennsylvania. Bridgeport will face Stanford and the host Quakers in tomorrow afternoon's action.
