Women's Gymnastics Advances To Saturday Night's USAG National Collegiate Team Final
Strong Performance In Floor Exercise Helps Purple Knights Grab Second Place In Friday's First Semifinal Behind Air Force
Providence, R.I.-The University of Bridgeport women's gymnastics team advanced to Saturday night's USA Gymnastics Women's Gymnastics Collegiate Team Final by taking second place in Friday's first team semifinal behind the Air Force Academy. Air Force posted a total score of 193.800 followed by UB at 193.625. Lindenwood University was third with 192.900 points and Cornell was fourth in the opening semifinal with a score of 191,950. The 2014 USA Gymnastics Women's Collegiate National Championships are being hosted by Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island.
The Purple Knights are the five-team defending USAG Women's Collegiate National Team Champions.
After posting scores of 48,950 on the vault and 49.050 on the bars, Bridgeport struggled on the balance beam falling several times to score only 46.625 before the Purple Knights rebounded with a strong 49.000 in the floor exercise to grab second place and advance to Saturday night's championship final along with Air Force.
In the floor exercise, Caitlin Perry (Jr., N. Kingston, R.I.) led UB with a score of 9.875 followed by seniors Melissa Doucette (Somersworth, N.H.) (9.850) and Lissette La Fex (Diamond Bar, Calif.) (9.775).
Saturday night's 2014 USAG Women's Collegiate Team Championshio Final will begin at 7:00 p.m.
