Purple Knights Win Sunday's Brown Women's Gymnastics Quad Meet
UB Edges The Host Bears, 194.650-194.125
Providence, R.I.-The University of Bridgeport women's gymnastics team got back to its winning ways on Sunday afternoon as the Purple Knights took first place in a quad meet hosted by Brown University. UB took first place with a team total of 194,650 to edge the host Bears who tallied a team total of 194.125. West Chester University was third (188.525 points) and the University of Rhode Island took fourth place (170.800).
UB seniors Lissette La Fex (Diamond Bar, Calif.) and Melissa Doucette (Somersworth, N.H.) went one-two in Sunday's alla0around competition. La Fex took first place with a career best score of 39.150, and Doucette was second with a total of 38.925 for the four events.
Lissette took first on the beam with a score of 9.750 and tied for first on the bars with a score of 9.850. Melissa also won two events grabbing the top spot on the vault with a score of 9.850 and in the floor exercise with an impressive score of 9.990.
Senior Kamri Riles (Ellenwood, Georgia) took second on both the vault (9.825) and the floor exercise (9/850).
Freshman Christine Liautaud (Cary, Illinois) took third for the Purple Knights on the bars with a score of 9.800.
After a busy weekend of three meets in four days, the UB women's gymnastics team will be back in action next Saturday, March 15 at the University of Arizona for a quad meet that will also include BYU and Texas Women's University. Action is slated to begin in the desert at 4:00 p.m. Arizona time.
