194.675 Score Is A Season-High Team Total For The Purple Knights
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's gymnastics team opened a busy few days of action with an impressive 194.675-191.025 home dual meet victory over the visiting Brown University Bears on Thursday night. The 194.675 is a 2014 season-high team score for the Purple Knights.
UB won all four events on Thursday posting a 48.450 on the vault, a 48.850 on the bars, a 48.250 on the beam and a season-best 49.125 on the floor.
Senior Lissette La Fex (Diamond Bar, Calif.) won Thursday's all-around posting score of 38.750. Lissette took third on the vault (9.750), first on the bars (9.875), ninth on the beam (9.300) and tied for third on the floor (9.825).
For UB on the vault, senior Melissa Doucette (Somersworth, N.H.) took first place with a score of 9.825, and classmate Kamri Riles (Ellenwood, Georgia) was second with a score of 9.775.
On bars, Bridgeport freshman Amber Hill (Windsor Locks, Conn.) took second place behind Lissette La Fex with a score of 9.825.
On the balance beam, senior Lisa Oakes (Suffern, N.Y.) grabbed first place with a score of 9.750. Freshman Bethany DiCarlo (Harleysville, Pa.) took second place with a score of 9.725, and senior Jenna Hamala-Smith (El Cerrito, Calif.) tied for third with a score of 9.650.
In the floor exercise, Melissa Doucette and junior Caitlin Perry (N. Kingston, R.I.) tied for first place with scores of 9.850.
The UB gymnastics team will be back in action on Saturday afternoon at the University of New Hampshire in a quad meet with George Washington and Penn State.
