UB Women's Gymnastics Posts 2014 Season-Best Score Of 193.500 At Penn State
Purple Knights Take Third Place In The Four-Team Event On Friday Night. Team Back In Action At Home On Thursday Versus Brown
State College, Pa.-The University of Bridgeport women's gymnastics team posted a 2014 season-high team score on Friday evening in a quad meet hosted by Penn State University with a total of 193.500 points, as the Purple Knights took third place in the four-team event. The host Nittany Lions won the event with 196.600 points. Western Michigan took second with 193.625 points followed by UB, and Yale was fourth with 188.525 points.
As a team, Bridgeport's best event on Friday evening was the bars, as UB totaled 48.550 points. In the floor exercise, UB scored 48.400, and the Purple Knights amassed 48.350 on the vault and 48.200 points on the beam.
Senior Lissette La Fex (Diamond Bar, California) took fourth place in Friday's all-around competition with 38.900 points in the four events. Lissette was the team's top finisher on the bars with a score of 9.775 points (tie for fifth place) and the on the beam with a score of 9.750 (tie for sixth place).
Senior Kamri Riles (Ellenwood, Georgia) was the top Purple Knight on the vault with a score of 9.800 (eighth place). Along with her strong performances on the bars and beam, Lissette La Fex finished just behind Riles in ninth place with a score of 9.700 in the vault.
In the floor exercise, junior Caitlin Perry (N. Kingston, R.I.) was the top UB finisher tying for fifth place with a score of 9.775.
Up next for the Bridgeport women's gymnastics team is the squad's second of three home meets this season when the Purple Knights host Brown University on Thursday, March 6. Action gets underway in the Wheeler Recreation Center at 6:00 p.m.
