Purple Knights Win Second Consecutive Women's Gymnastics Meet Taking First Place In Four-Team Event At Brown
Senior Lissette La Fex Captures Sunday's All-Around Title
Providence, R.I.-The University of Bridgeport women's gymnastics team won its second consecutive meet on Sunday afternoon, as the Purple Knights captured a quad meet hosted by Brown University. UB took first place with a total score of 192.450, winning the vault (48.075), bars (48.500) and floor exercise (48.725). The host Bears were second with a score of 191.950, and they were followed by Brockport State in third (186.550 points) and Rhode Island College (175.075 points) in fourth place.
UB senior Lissette La Fex (Diamond Bar, Calif.) won Sunday's all-around competition posting a total score of 38.825 in the four events. Classmate Melissa Doucette (Somersworth, N.H.) was third in the all0around at Brown with a total of 38.350. Lissette's top performances on Sunday were taking second place in both the bars (9.800) and the beam (9.675). Melissa tied for third on the beam with a score of 9.625.
Bridgeport teammates Kamri Riles (Sr., Ellenwood, Georgia) and Kimberly Stewart (Fr., Eastham, Mass.) tied for first place on the vault with scores of 9.800.
Another first place for the Purple Knights was turned in by junior Sasha Tsikhanovich (Marysville, Ohio) who won the floor exercise with a score of 9.850. UB's Caitlin Perry (Jr., N. Kingston, R.I.) was second on the floor with a score of 9.800.
Tsikhanovich also tied with Kamri Riles for third on the bars with a score of 9.750.
The UB women's gymnastics team will be back in action next Saturday, February 1 when they travel to Yale University of a quad meet that will also feature Brown and Southern Connecticut State. Action is slated to begin at 1:00 p.m.
