Freshman Amber Hill Wins All-Around In Women's Gymnastics Dual Meet At Southern Connecticut State
Purple Knights Set To Host First Home Meet Of 2014 On Thursday With Temple And SCSU
New Haven, Conn.- University of Bridgeport freshman Amber Hill (Windsor Locks, Conn.) won the all-around title on Saturday afternoon with a total score of 37.750 for her four events, as the Purple Knights' women's gymnastics team fell to the host Southern Connecticut State Owls, 186.325-181.800, in dual meet action. Bridgeport opened the 2014 season at the University of Arkansas on Friday night, and Saturday's squad at SCSU was made up of gymnasts that did not travel to take on the Razorbacks and Western Michigan.
Along with the all-around title, Hill took first place on the bars (9.625) and was her team's top finisher in the floor exercise taking fourth place with a score of 9.525.
Senior Zahra Stamps (Phoenix. Ariz.) was the Purple Knights' top finisher in the vault taking third place with a score of 9.525.
On the balance beam, freshman Rachel DiCarlo (Harleysville, Pa.) was Bridgeport's top competitor on the balance beam finishing in a second place tie with a score of 9.625,
Next up for the UB women's gymnastics team will be the first of three home meets scheduled during the 2014 season, as the Purple Knights host Temple and Southern Connecticut State at the Wheeler Recreation Center, this Thursday, January 16 at 6:00 p.m.
