Bridgeport Women's Gymnastics Posts Season-High Team Score Of 196.200 To Take Brown Quad Meet
Purple Knights Win All Four Events On Their Way To Season-High Team Total
Providence, R.I.-It was a fine rainy Tuesday afternoon for the University of Bridgeport women's gymnastics team, as the Purple Knights turned in a season-high team score of 196.200 to take first place in a quad meet hosted by Brown University. Tuesday's meet was a make-up for a meet that was snowed out in early February by the Blizzard of 2013. Yale took second place with a score of 193.475, the host Bears were third with a total score of 191.625, and the University of Rhode Island Club team was fourth with a score of 162.575.
UB won all four events on its way to its 2013 season-high team total taking the vault with a new school record score (49.425), the bars (48.725), the beam (48.900) and the floor exercise (49.150).
Sophomore Sasha Tsikhanovich (Marysville, Ohio) and junior Lissette La Fex (Diamond Bar, California) led the Bridgeport charge on Tuesday, as they one-two in the all-around with Sasha posting a score of 39.4750 and Lissette turning in a total of 39.100.
Tsikhanovich and La Fex tied for first place on the bars with a score of 9.850 and on the beam with a score of 9.800.
Sasha took first in the floor exercise with an impressive score of 9.925 (La Fex was eighth with a score of 9.650), and she was second on the vault with a score of 9.990; while Lissette took seventh (9.800).
UB senior Monica Mesalles Sallares (Barcelona, Spain) took first on the vault with a score of 9.950, and she was second in the floor exercise with a score of 9.990.
The Purple Knights took the top four spots in the floor exercise as sophomore Caitlin Perry, competing in her native state of Rhode Island, was third (9.875) and junior Melissa Doucette (Somersworth, N.H.) was fourth (9.800).
The Bridgeport gymnastics team is back in action at Arizona State University on Friday night, March 15.
