Purple Knights Gymnastics Posts Season-High Team Score For Second Straight Day As UB Tops Penn In Dual Meet Action
Purple Knights Defeat Quakers, 195.325-193.975
Philadelphia, Pa.-The University of Bridgeport women's gymnastics team continued to roll though the 2013 season and remained undefeated on the campaign, as the Purple Knights wrapped up a busy weekend of action and for the second straight day posted a season-best team score, picking up a 195.325-193.975 dual meet victory over the host University of Pennsylvania Quakers on Sunday afternoon. UB won three of the four events on the day topping Penn in the vault, beam and floor exercise.
As she has done in six of seven meets so far this season, sophomore Sasha Tsikhanovich (Marysville, Ohio) won the all-around competition with a total of 39.225 for the four events. Sasha won the balance beam (9.850) and tied for second on both the vault (9.825) and the floor exercise (9.875) and was sixth on the bars (9.675).
Senior Monica Mesalles Sallares (Barcelona, Spain) was a double-winner on Sunday taking first place on the vault (9.925) and in the floor exercise (9.900).
Junior Lissette La Fex (Diamond Bar, Calif.) continued her strong 2013 season finishing in a first place tie on the bars (9.800), tying for fourth on the vault with teammate Melissa Doucette (Jr., Somersworth, N.H.) (9.775) and tying for third on the beam with UB's Lorraine Galow (Suwanee, Georgia) (9.775).
Junior Kamri Riles (Ellenwood, Georgia) tied for second on the vault with Sasha Tsikhanovich at 9.825.
Junior Jenna Hamala-Smith (El Cerrito, Calif.) has a fine afternoon in helping the Purple Knights to the win turning in career bests on the beam (9.625) and in the floor exercise (9.825).
The Bridgeport women's gymnastics team returns to action this Friday, February 22 when the squad will face a tough test against the host University of Maryland plus Pittsburgh and George Washington. Action gets underway in College Park, Md. at 7:00 p.m.
