Women's Gymnastics Posts Season-High Team Score Of 194.725 To Win Yale Bulldog Invitational
Purple Knights Best Yale, Springfield and West Chester On Saturday
New Haven, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's gymnastics team posted a season-high team score of 194.725 as the Purple Knights remained undefeated on the year winning the four-team Yale Bulldog Invitational on Saturday afternoon in New Haven, Connecticut. Host Yale was second with a score of 191.325 followed by West Chester at 186.000 and Springfield College at 182.050.
Sophomore Sasha Tsikhanovich (Marysville, Ohio) added to her already impressive resume so far this season winning her fifth all-around title of 2013 with a total score of 39.325, as she took first on the bars (9.850), the beam (9.800) and won the floor exercise (9.875). Sasha finished in fourth place on the vault (9.725).
Senior Monica Mesalles Sallares (Barcelona, Spain) grabbed first place on the vault (9.900), and she tied for second in the floor exercise (9.850).
In the vault, the Purple Knights took four of the first five places as Mesalles Sallares and Tsikhanovich were joined by juniors Kamri Riles (Ellenwood, Georgia) in third (9.825) and Lissette La Fex (Diamond Bar, Calif.) in fifth place (9,750).
La Fex also placed second on the bars (9.800) and tied for third on the beam (9.725).
Graduate student Lorraine Galow (Suwanee, Georgia) gave UB a one-two-three finish on the beam, as she took second place with a score 9.775.
In the floor exercise, sophomore Caitlin Perry (N. Kingston, R.I.) finished fourth (9.800), and junior Jenna Hamala-Smith (El Cerrito, Calif.) took fifth place (9.7.25).
Tomorrow, Sunday, February 17, the UB women's gymnastics team wraps up a busy weekend with a meet at Penn. Action gets underway in Philadelphia at 1:00 p.m.
