Women's Gymnastics Continues Winning Ways With Quad Meet Victory At Towson University
Purple Knights Take All Four Events As They Post Team Total of 194.650
Towson, Md.-The University of Bridgeport women's gymnastics team won its fourth straight meet an improved its total team score for the fourth straight outing by winning a quad meet hosted by Towson University on Saturday afternoon in Maryland. UB took first place with score of 194.650. Towson was second with a score of 193.00, followed by Lindewood University at 187.650 and Ursinus with a total of 181.150. The Purple Knights took first place in all four events taking the vault (48.950), the bars (48.225) the beam (48.300) and the floor exercise (49.175). Saturday's loss to UB is Towson's first at home since March 21. 2008 that included a total of 33 decisions.
Sophomore Sasha Tsikhanovich (Marysville, Ohio) won Saturday's all-around with a score of 39.125. Sasha tied for first on the beam (9.975), was second in the floor exercise (9.875), tied for third on the bars (9.675) and tied for fourth on the vault (9.800).
Senior Monica Mesalles Sallares (Barcelona, Spain) won the floor exercise with a score of 9.925 and was second on the vault with a score of 9.825.
UB junior Lissette La Fex (Diamond Bar, Calif.) grabbed first place on the bars with a score of 9.775.
The Purple Knights took the top four places in the floor exercise, as sophomore Caitlin Perry (N. Kingston, R.I.) was third (9.850) and junior Kamri Riles (Ellenwood, Georgia) was fourth (9.825). Riles was also fourth on the vault (9.800).
Junior Melissa Doucette (Somersworth, N.H.) helped Bridgeport to Saturday's win at a solid third place finish on the beam with a score of 9.725.
The Bridgeport gymnastics team will look to continue its winning next Saturday afternoon (Feb. 2) at Temple University. Next week's meet which begins at 1:00 p.m. will feature the host Owls, UB, West Chester and Ursinus.
