Junior Monica Mesalles Sallares Wins Three Of Four Individual Events On Final Day Of 2012 USAG Women's Collegiate National Championships
Monica Wins Floor, Vault and Beam
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport wrapped up a tremendously successful weekend of hosting the 2012 USA Gymnastics Women's Collegiate National Championships on Saturday afternoon as the individual event finals took place before a stranding room crowd in UB's Hubbell Gymnasium.
Saturday belonged to Bridgeport junior Monica Mesalles Sallares (Barcelona, Spain) who took first place in three of the four events that were contested on the day. Mesalles Sallares, the 2012 USAG All-Around Champion which she won on Thursday evening, also helped her team to its fourth consecutive USAG team title on Friday night.
Monica won her third straight USAG Women's Collegiate floor exercise crown with a score of 9.900. She also took first on the balance beam with a score of 9.875 and won the vault for the second straight year posting a score of 9.925.
Freshman Courtney Cochefski (Chicago, Ill.) won the 2012 USAG bars title with a score of 9.850.
Other Bridgeport top finishers were freshman Sasha Tsikhanovich (Marysville, Ohio) who tied for third on the floor (9.825), senior Emily Repko (Gilbertsville, Pa.) who was third on the beam (9.825) and sophomore Lissette La Fex (Diamond Bar, Calif.) who was second on the bars (9.825). Senior Caroline McAvity (Rothesay, New Brunswick, Canada) complete her UB career in fine style as she took fourth on the beam with a personal best score of 9.800.
