Caroline McAvity And Sasha Tsikhanovich Selected As ECAC Division II Gymnasts Of The Week
Duo Holds Its Own Against Strong Division I Competition At The University of Florida
Centerville, Mass.-For the second consecutive week, two members of the University of Bridgeport women's gymnastics team have earned weekly ECAC Division II awards for their outstanding performances for the Purple Knights in the team's quad meet hosted by the University of Florida last Friday evening. Senior Caroline McAvity (Rothesay, New Brunswick, Canada) has been selected as the ECAC Division II Gymnast of the Week, and Freshman Sasha Tsikhanovich (Marysville. Ohio) has been named the ECAC Division II Rookie of the Week.
McAvity recorded a season-best score of 9.775 on the balance beam against some of the best Division I competition in the nation at the University of Florida on Friday. She helped the University of Bridgeport post a season-best team total of 192.975 in a meet that featured the host Gators, Arkansas and Maryland. Her performance was good enough for 12th-place in the event.
Tsikhanovich held her own versus Division I competition that included Arkansas and Maryland in a meet at the University of Florida last weekend, as she contributed to Bridgeport's season-best team score of 192.975. She registered a 9.75 on the beam and was the top UB finisher on the uneven parallel bars with a 9.65 score, which was good for 13th place.
This week the UB gymnastics team opens its home schedule with a dual meet with Towson University on February 3. Action begins in the Wheeler Recreation Center at 7:00 p.m. on Friday night.
