Gymnasts Wrap Up 2011 USAG National Championshps Weekend With Strong Showing In Individual Event Finals
Monica Mesalles Wins Floor Exercise And Vault Titles
Colorado Springs, Colo.-After winning their third consecutive USA Gymnastics Team Collegiate National Title on Saturday night, the University of Bridgeport wrapped up a successful 2011 USAG Championships weekend with a strong showing in Sunday afternoon's individual event finals.
Sophomore Monica Mesalles (Barcelona, Spain) won two individual event titles on Sunday winning the floor exercise (9.875) and the vault (9.850).
Junior Emily Repko (Gilbertsville, Pa.) had a strong showing on Sunday taking fifth on the balance beam with a score of 9,625 and finishing in a tie for sixth place in the floor exercise with a score of 9.725. Classmate Jessica Watts (Marietta, GA) finished in a fourth place tie in the floor exercise with a score of 9.750.
Finishing behind Mesalles in the vault were teammates Kamri Riles (Fr., Ellenwood, Ga.) who tied for third (9.775), and sophomore Natalie Saimeri (E. Longmeadow, Mass.) who took seventh with a score of 9.725.
Bridgeport's top finisher on the bars was freshman Emily Turik (Crystal Lake, Ill.) who took ninth place (8.950).
Congratulations to the entire University of Bridgeport women's gymnastics team, along with head coach Byron Knox and his staff, for making the entire UB community proud of their outstanding accomplishments during the 2011 season.
