Gymnastics Takes Second At Rutgers Tri-Meet With A Score Of 191.850
Monica Mesalles Stars Again In The All-Around
Piscataway, N.J.-The University of Bridgeport gymnastics team topped the 190.000 team point for the seventh time this season, as the Purple Knights took second place in a tri-meet hosted by Rutgers University on Saturday night. Rutgers won the team event with a score of 194.150. UB was second with a score of 191.850, and Ursinus College took third place with a score of 182.425.
Bridgeport sophomore Monica Mesalles (Barcelona, Spain) was outstanding for the second consecutive night on Saturday as she won the vault (9.875) and took second place on the balance beam (9.800) and in the floor exercise (9.825). Monica finished eight on the bars with a score of 9.575 which placed her in second in the all-around competition with a total of 39.075. Saturday marked the second straight meet that Mesalles' total scored topped 39.000 in the all-around.
Junior Emily Repko (Gilbertsville, Pa.) took third on the beam with a score of 9.775, and freshmen Emily Turik (Crystal Lake, Ill.) in second place (9.725) and Leah Goldberg (Marlton, N. J.) in fourth place (9.700) were the top Bridgeport finishers on the bars.
The Purple Knights wrap up a busy weekend of gymnastics on Sunday afternoon at the University of Maryland, as they compete for the third straight day.
