Purple Knights Gymnastics Drops Hard-Fought Home Meet To New Hampshire
Monica Mesalles Stars With 39.250 All-Around Total
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport gymnastics team topped the 190.000 team point for the sixth time in seven meets this season on Friday night, as the Purple Knights lost a hard-fought home dual meet with the University of New Hampshire Wildcats, 194.375-191.300.
Bridgeport sophomore Monica Mesalles (Barcelona, Spain) was outstanding on Friday night as she won the vault (9.875) and the floor exercise events (9.900-school record score). Monica also tied for second on the balance beam with teammate Emily Repko (Gilbertsville. Pa.) with a score of 9.800, and she was UB's top finisher on the bars with a score of 9.675 which put her in fifth place.
Mesallles was second in the all-around competition with a season-high and school record total of 39.250 points.
Friday's meet opened a busy weekend for the Bridgeport gymnastics team, as the Purple Knights will travel to Rutgers tomorrow and the University of Maryland on Sunday.
