Purple Knights Register Another Season-High In Team Points
Colorado Springs, Colo.-The University of Bridgeport gymnastics team posted its highest team score of the 2011 season on Saturday night as the Purple Knights won a tight dual meet hosted by the U.S. Air Force Academy, 192.425-192.400. Saturday's meet at the Air Force Academy marked the fifth time this season in six total meets that the Purple Knights have topped the 190.000 total for a team score. The Air Force Academy will be the site of this year's USAG National Championship Meet in April
UB sophomore Monica Mesalles (Barcelona, Spain) won the all-around competition scoring a total of 38.925 on Saturday night. Monica took first place in the floor exercise with a score of 9.775, and she also won the vault with a total of 9.875. She also tied for second place on the balance beam with a score if 9.675.
On the bars freshman Emily Turik (Crystal Lake, Il.) was the top UB finisher with a score of 9.775 which was good for third place.
The Bridgeport gymnastics team is back in action on Friday night, February 25th when they their only home meet versus the University of New Hampshire. Action begins in the Wheeler Recreation Center at 6:00 p.m.
