Gymnastics Team Opens 2011 Season With Second Place At Brown Tri-Meet
Senior Lorraine Galow Wins All-Around Competition
Providence, R.I.-The University of Bridgeport gymnastics team, the two-time defending USAG National Team Champions, open its 2011 season with a second place finish at a tri-meet hosted by Brown University on Sunday afternoon that also featured Towson University. Towson took first place on the day with a score of 191.050. UB was second with a score of 190.100, and Brown was third with a total of 188.050.
Senior Lorraine Galow (Suwanee, Ga.) took first place in the All-Around with a score of 38.575. Teammate Monica Mesalles (SO, Barcelona, Spain) was third in the All-Around with a total of 38.125.
In individual events, Mesalles tied for first place in the floor exercise with a score of 9.850, and she was second in the vault with a total of 9.825.
On the balance beam, junior Emily Repko (Gilbertsville, Pa.) won the event with a score of 9.700.
On the uneven parallel bars, Lorraine Galow and sophomore Natalie Suimeri (East Longmeadow, Mass.) were the top finishers for the Purple Knights finishing in a tie for second place with a score of 9.650. Galow as took fourth place in the vault (9.700).
UB will be back in action next Saturday afternoon for a quad-meet at Rhode Island College with Ithaca and Wilson Colleges. Action gets underway at 1:00 p.m.
