Purple Knights Scratched By Owls In Road Loss
Bridgeport was defeated by Southern Connecticut 57-50 in New Haven on Saturday afternoon.
New Haven, Conn. – The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team fell in Saturday's non-conference contest with Southern Connecticut State University. The Purple Knights stayed within striking distance but could not overcome the Owls and would lose by a score of 50-57. The loss drops UB's overall season record to 2-7.
The Purple Knights started their Saturday game well against the hosting Owls, holding a one-point, 29-28 lead at halftime. SCSU sprinted out of the gates to start the second half, outscoring Bridgeport 23-9 in the third quarter to open a 51-38 lead. The Purple Knights were able to tighten things up, limiting Southern to just six fourth quarter points but it was too little too late, SCSU taking a 57-50 victory over UB.
The Purple Knights were led by Stephanie McBride (Sr., Brooklyn, N.Y.) with nine points, three rebounds and one assist.
Shakira Hester (Sr., Bronx, N.Y.) contributed eight points in addition to seven rebounds, three assists and one steal.
Freshman Harmony Earth-Wiley (Troy, Mich.) had a team-high nine rebounds to add to her seven points.
Up next, UB will continue their road stretch against Northeast 10 opponents on Saturday, December 16th as they travel to Manchester, N.H. to take on Southern New Hampshire University. Tipoff is set for 1:30 p.m. in the Stan Spirou Field House.
