Purple Knights Overwhelmed By Nationally Ranked Greyhounds
Women’s Basketball fell on the road to No. 24 nationally ranked Assumption University Tuesday evening.
Worcester, Mass. – The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team came up short Tuesday evening as they lost to the No. 24 Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) nationally ranked Assumption University Greyhounds. Assumption started in full sprint, scoring 24 points in the first quarter and cruised to a 67-33 victory over the Purple Knights. The non-conference loss drops UB's overall season record to 2-6.
The Greyhounds sprinted out of the gates to take a 13-0 lead in under five minutes to start the game. Assumption ran the ball with speed, scoring 18 points on the fast break. UB was outscore two to one in the paint with 14 points compared to Assumption's 28.
Bridgeport's leading scorer was Shakira Hester (Sr., Bronx, N.Y.) with 10 points along with a team-high nine rebounds and three steals.
Sade Young (Jr., Brooklyn, N.Y.) led the ball control department for UB with four assists and added two rebounds.
Senior Stephanie McBride (Brooklyn, N.Y.) registered seven rebounds, three points and two blocks.
Up next, UB will make the short drive to in New Haven, Conn on Saturday, December 9th as they take on Southern Connecticut State University at 12:00 p.m. in the James Moore Field House.
