UB Women's Basketball Rallies To Defeat Fellcian, 62-61, In Overtime
Freshman Amani Melendez Knocks Down The Game-Winning Three-Pointer Late In OT
Bridgeport, Conn.-Freshman Amani Melendez (Woodbridge, Va.) buried a three-pointer from the corner in front of her team's bench with just over three seconds to play in overtime to the University of Bridgeport women's basketball team in a comeback, 62-61, Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference win over the visiting Golden Falcons of Felician University in Hubbbell Gym on Tuesday night. Bridgeport trailed 44-32 entering the fourth quarter, but the Purple Knights outscored Felician, 23-11 in the fourth, to force overtime tied at 55-55. With the victory, UB is now an even 8-8 overall and 4-4 in conference play. The Golden Falcons are now 6-7 overall and 3-4 in the CACC.
Senior Stephanie McBride (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led the Purple Knights in scoring on Tuesday with 20 points, and she finished with her third double-double of the season grabbing a game-high 11 rebounds, six of which came on the offensive glass.
Melendez also reached double-digit scoring for the winners with 13 points, including her game-winning three-pointer.
Defense played a huge part in the Bridgeport comeback, as the Purple Knights scored 31 points, half of the team's game total, off of 27 Felician turnovers.
Katelyn Andres of the Golden Falcons led all scorers on Tuesday night with 21 points.
Up next, the UB women's basketball team travels to Delaware to take on Goldey-Beacom in a CACC contest on Saturday afternoon. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
