Fourth Quarter Rally Comes Up Short As UB Women Fall To Dominican University New York
UB Right Back In Action At Home On Wednesday Night Against Local Rival The University of New Haven
Bridgeport, Conn.-Trialing by 16 points, 56-40, with 3:15 to play in the third quarter, host the University of Bridgeport women's basketball team staged a strong comeback to cut its deficit to only three points, 67-64, with 6:04 to play in the game, but the visiting Dominican University New York Chargers pulled away to post an 80-66 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference win over the Purple Knights on Tuesday evening in Hubbell Gym. With the loss, UB is now 4-5 overall and 1-2 in conference play. The Chargers remain unbeaten in conference play at 3-0 and are 6-4 overall.
Junior Shakira Hester (Bronx, N.Y.) led Bridgeport in scoring with 14 points on the night, and she also grabbed seven rebounds.
Newcomer, junior Tariah Bryant (Brooklyn, N.Y.) had her best game to date so far in a UB uniform netted 12 points and tying for the team lead in boards with seven and notched three steals and adding two assists in 18 minutes of action.
Sophomore Brianna Meekins (Bridgeport, Conn.) also had seven rebounds for the Purple Knights.
Dominican's Tanasha Mills led all scorers on the night with 27 points to lead three Chargers in double-digit scoring.
Up next, the UB women's basketball team is right back in action at home on Wednesday night, as the Purple Knights host local rival the University of New Haven at 7:00 p.m. in the third game of a four-game homestand.
