Fourth Quarter Surge Lifts Women's Basketball To Key ECC Road Win Over Molloy
Purple Knights Outscore The Host Lions, 29-18, In Final Frame To Post An 85-78 Victory
Rockville Centre, N.Y.-Trailing 60-56 entering the fourth quarter, the University of Bridgeport women's basketball team outscored the host Molloy College Lions, 29-18, over the final 10 minutes of play to post an important, 85-78, East Coast Conference road win on Wednesday night on Long Island. With the victory, the Purple Knights move to 10-13 overall, and more importantly, stay in the thick of the race for a berth in the ECC Championship Tournament at 6-7 in conference play. Molloy slips to 8-16 overall and 3-11 in the East Coast Conference.
Senior Samnell Vonleh (Swampscott, Mass.) led all scorers on the night with 23 points and fell just shy of a double-double pulling down nine rebounds.
Classmate Sarah Middleton (Barrington, R.I.) had a strong night for the winners scoring 17 points, connecting on 7-of-9 field goals, and dishing out nine assists.
Juniors Briana Stoddart (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Kayla Hill (Massapequa, N.Y.) rounded out the UB quartet in double-digit scoring with 14 and 13 points respectively. Hill also was strong on the boards grabbing eight rebounds.
Melody Prichard led Molloy with 17 points on the evening.
Up next, the UB women's team will look to run its winning streak to three games on Saturday when the Purple Knights host Queens (N.Y.) College. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m. in Hubbell Gym.
