Gianna Gotti's Late Three Pointer Lifts UB Women To A 51-48 Win At Pace
Purple Knights Head Into The Holiday Break At 7-4 Overall
Pleasantville, N.Y.-A three-point shot by freshman Gianna Gotti (Oyster Bay, N.Y.) with 32 second to play in the fourth quarter lifted the University of Bridgeport women's basketball team to a 51-48 non-conference road win over the host Pace University Setters on Wednesday night. The visiting Purple Knights never trailed on Wednesday and led by as many as 20 points, 29-9, in the second quarter, only to see the Setters battle back to tie the game at 48-48 with 1:00 to play before Gotti hit the game-winning shot. Wednesday's win extends UB's winning streak to three games, as the Purple Knights, winners of six of their last seven games, move to 7-4 overall. Pace slips to 4-8 overall so far this season.
Senior Samnell Vonleh (Swampscott, Mass.) led Bridgeport in scoring with 10 points, and she grabbed seven rebounds.
Three Purple Knights, Gotti, graduate student Nkechi "NK" Ilang (Ebonyi State, Nigeria) plus junior Briana Stoddart (Brooklyn, N.Y.), netted eight points apiece in Wednesday's victory.
Ilang also had seven rebounds for the winners.
The UB women's basketball team will look to continue their hot streak when the team returns to the court after the Holiday Break when they host the Rams of Jefferson University on Sunday, December 30 in Hubbell Gym. Tip time is set for 1:00 p.m.
