Freshman Gianna Gotti Leads UB With A Career-High 23 Ponts
Flushing, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team raced out to a 9-0 lead to begin the game, and the Purple Knights never trailed on the afternoon posting a 67-51 East Coast Conference road win over the Queens (N.Y.) College Knights on Saturday in New York City. UB, winners of five out of their last six games, are now 6-4 overall and 3-1 in conference play. QC slips to 2-8 overall and 1-3 in the ECC.
The visiting Purple Knights led 25-15 after one quarter, 34-23 at the half and 54-36 after three quarters on their way to their second straight win.
Bridgeport freshman Gianna Gotti (Oyster Bay, N.Y.) led all scorers in the game with a career-high 23 points coming off the bench.
Gotti was joined in double figures by senior Samnell Vonleh (Swampscott, Mass.) with 14 points and graduate student Nkechi "NK" Ilang (Ebonyi State, Nigeria) with 11 points. Vonleh fell just shy of a double-double as she also pulled down nine rebounds.
Senior point guard Sarah Middleton (Barrington, R.I.) had an excellent game directing the Bridgeport offense, as she dished off a total of six assists. Lucy Tougas led Queens with 15 points on the day.
Up next, the UB women's basketball team will close out its pre-Holiday schedule at Pace University on Wednesday night, as the Purple Knights will take on the Setters in a non-conference contest that will tip-off at 8:00 p.m.
