Bridgeport, Conn.- The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team fell in its 2018-19 season opener at home on Saturday afternoon, as the Purple Knights were defeated the University of New Haven, 64-31, at the UB Women's Basketball Conference Crossover Classic.
After a slow start for both teams UNH pulled ahead to take a 15-point lead going into halftime with a score of 26-11, and the visiting Chargers never looked back
Junior Jaqualah Holliman (Boston, Mass.) led Bridgeport in scoring with eight points and grabbed six rebounds. Classmate Kayla Hill (Massapequa, N.Y.) contributed five points and led the team in rebounds with seven. Freshman guard Gianna Gotti (Oyster Bay, N.Y.) added six points in her debut as a Purple Knight.
Both teams will be back in action on Sunday to close out the 2018 UB Women's Basketball Crossover Conference Classic, as the University of New Haven will play Post University at noon; while UB will face Southern Connecticut State University at 5:00 p.m.
