Purple Knights Fall In See-Saw ECC Women's Hoops Contest Versus Mercy, 58-55
Samnell Vonleh Finishes With 15 Points And 16 Rebounds For UB
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team lost a see-saw East Coast Conference contest that featured 15 ties and 12 lead changes against the visiting Mercy College Mavericks, 58-55, on Saturday afternoon in UB's Hubbell Gym. With the loss, the Purple Knights are now 8-18 overall and 5-11 in conference play. Mercy moves to 8-18 overall and 3-13 in the ECC.
Junior Samnell Vonleh (Swampscott, Mass.) led Bridgeport with a double-double of 15 points and a game-high 16 rebounds.
Senior Morgen Caution (Baltimore, Md.) had eight points and nine rebounds for the Purple Knights, and she also blocked two shots and added two assists and a pair of steals.
Sophomore Kadijah Dickson (Queens, N.Y.) also had eight points for UB.
Mercy's Amber Brown led all scorers in the game with 22 points.
The free throw line proved to be a deciding factor on Saturday, as the Maverick were a perfect 19-of-19 from the line; while UB went only 7-of-17.
Up next, the UB women's basketball team will close out its 2017-18 home schedule on Wednesday night with a Senior Night contest versus Molloy College. Game time is set for 5:00 p.m.
