Women's Basketball Never Trails As Purple Knights Top UDC, 77-61
Samnell Vonleh Registers Double-Double Number Eight Of The Season With 15 Points And 10 Rebounds
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team never trailed on Wednesday night, as the host Purple Knights posted a 77-61 East Coast Conference home win over the visiting University of the District of Columbia Firebirds. UB was red-hot from the floor for the second straight game, as the team shot 60.9 percent for the night hitting 28-of-46 field goals. Bridgeport is now 8-16 overall and 5-9 in conference play. UDC slips to 3-21 overall and 1-13 in the ECC.
UB junior Samnell Vonleh (Swampscott, Mass.) led all scorers and rebounders in the game, as she picked up double-double number eight of the 2017-18 season with 15 points and 10 rebounds, Vonleh also blocked four shots, had three assists and one steal on the night.
Samnell was joined in double figures by sophomore Briana Stoddart (Brooklyn, N.Y.) with 13 points, and pair of Purple Knights netted season highs off the bench in sophomore Kayla Hill (Massapequa, N.Y.) with 14 points and junior Andrea Terranova (Haverhill, Mass.) with 12 points.
Up next, the UB women's basketball team will travel to St. Thomas Aquinas College on Saturday afternoon looking to put together a three-game winning streak. Game time is slated for 1:00 p.m.
