Hot Shooting UB Women Post 74-64 ECC Win At NYIT
Four Players Reach Double Figures As Purple Knights Snap Three-Game Losing Skid
Old Westbury, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team snapped a three-game losing streak on Saturday afternoon, as the visiting Purple Knights used hot shooting and balanced scoring to post a 74-64 East Coast Conference win over the host NYIT Bears on Long Island. With the victory, UB is now 7-16 overall and 4-9 in the ECC. NYIT is now 13-9 overall and 7-5 in conference action.
As a team, the Purple Knights shot 54.4 percent from the floor connecting on 31-of-57 field goals and had four players reach double-digit scoring.
Sophomore Briana Stoddart (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led Bridgeport and all scorers in the game with 17 points.
She was joined in double figures by junior Samnell Vonleh (Swampscott, Mass.) with 16 points, and senior Morgen Caution (Baltimore, Md.) and sophomore Kadijah Dickson (Queens, N.Y.) each had 13 points for the winners. Caution also grabbed seven rebounds on the afternoon which tied for the team lead on the glass with junior, guard Sarah Middleton (Barrington, R.I.), who also directed the UB offense with 10 assists.
Up next, the UB women's basketball team will look to begin a winning streak at home on Wednesday night, when the Purple Knights host the University of the District of Columbia. Game time in Hubbell Gym is slated for 7:00 p.m.
