Five Players Reach Double-Digit Scoring As UB Women Defeat UDC, 78-54
Senior Sofia Ermeidou Leads All Scorers With 15 Points
Washington, D.C.-The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team scored the first eight points of the game and never looked back, as the Purple Knights snapped a three-game losing streak with a 78-54 East Coast Conference road win over the University of the District of Columbia. With the victory, UB is now 5-10 overall and 2-3 in the ECC. UDC slips to 2-1 overall, and the Firebirds remain winless in conference play at 0-4.
Bridgeport shot the ball exceeding well on Wednesday night hitting 55.1 percent of their total field goals (27-of-49), including going a blistering 9-of-16 from behind the three-point arc.
Senior Sofia Ermeidou (Athens, Greece) led five UB players in double figures with a game-high 15 points off the bench, as she connected on 5-of-8 three point shots.
Also reaching double-digit scoring for the winner junior Samnell Vonleh (Swampscott, Mass.) with 14 points, sophomore Briana Stoddart (Brooklyn, N.Y.) with 13 points, classmate Kadijah Dickson (Queens, N.Y.) with 11 points and senior Morgen Caution (Baltimore, Md.) with 10 points.
Vonleh led the team with eight tebounds, and Stoddart also grabbed seven boards.
Sophomore Kayla Hill (Massapequa, N.Y.) chipped in seven points for the winners
Up next, the UB women's basketball team will host St. Thomas Aquinas College on Saturday afternoon in Hubbell Gym. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
