Purple Knights Wrap Up Pre-Holiday Women's Hoops Schedule With A 69-57 Loss At Merrimack
Kadijah Dickson And Samnell Vonleh Notch Double-Double For The Purple Knights
N. Andover, Mass.-Playing their fourth game in seven days prior to the Holiday Break, the University of Bridgeport women's basketball team fell to the host Merrimack College Warriors, 69-57, in non-conference play on Tuesday evening. UB is now 4-8 overall, and Merrimack moves above the .500 mark overall at 6-5.
The host Warriors outscored the Purple Knights by identical 20-14 margins in the first and second quarters to grab a 40-28 halftime lead from which they never looked back.
Positives for Bridgeport in the contest were the face the team dominated the glass outrebounding Merrimack by a 59-39 margin, and UB also was perfect 15-for-15 from the foul line.
A pair of Bridgeport players finished with double-doubles on day, as sophomore Kadijah Dickson (Queens, N.Y.) led the team in scoring with 17 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, and junior Samnell Vonleh (Swampscott, Mass.) grabbed a game-high 16 rebounds and netted 14 points. Sophomore Briana Stoddart (Brooklyn, N.Y.) also finished in double-digit scoring for the Purple Knights with 11 points.
The UB women's basketball team is back in action on Friday, December 29 when the Purple Knights host Adelphi University in a non-conference game in Hubbell Gym. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
