UB Women Nipped By AIC, 60-56, In Non-Conference Hoops Action
Purple Knights Back In Action At Home On Friday Evening Versus Roberts Wesleyan
Bridgeport, Conn.-After trailing by one point, 34-33, at halftime, the visiting American International College Yellow Jackets opened the third quarter on a 12-0 run and never fell behind in the second half on their way to a 60-56 non-conference women's basketball win over the host University of Bridgeport Purple Knights on Tuesday night in the Park City. With the win, AIC is now 4-7 overall, and with the loss, UB is now 3-6 on the season.
Junior Samnell Vonleh (Swampscott, Mass.) led the hosts in scoring and rebounding on Tuesday, as she finished just shy of a double-double with 16 points and nine rebounds, plus Vonleh also blocked three shots.
She was joined in double-digit scoring by senior Morgen Caution (Baltimore, Md.), who had 11 points and chipped in eight rebounds, and sophomore Kadijah Dickson (Queens, N.Y.) who finished with 10 points and seven assists.
Subpar foul shooting plagued the Purple Knights in the loss, as the team hit only 6-of-16 free throws on the night. Trailing 58-56 with 5.3 seconds reaming in the fourth quarter, the Purple Knights had a chance to tie the game when Dickson went to the foul line for two shots but missed both of the charity tosses.
Up next, the UB women's basketball team will look to snap a four-game losing skid on Friday night when UB hosts Roberts Wesleyan College in ECC action. Tip-off in Hubbell Gym is slated for 5:00 p.m.
