UB Earns First Women's Basketball Win Of 2017-18 By Topping Southern Connecticut State, 58-41
Purple Knights Open The Season With Split At Bridgeport Conference Crossover Classic
Bridgeport, Conn.- The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team earned its first victory of the 2017-18 season and a split of the season-opening UB Women's Basketball Classic with a 58-41 win over the visiting Southern Connecticut State University Owls on Sunday afternoon in Hubbell Gym. The Purple Knights are now 1-1 overall; while SCSU falls to 0-2 overall.
UB opened the contest with a made jumper just 25 seconds into the first quarter and maintained the lead from wire-to-wire. Bridgeport would not look back in the first half, holding the Owls to just four points in the second quarter, and taking a 15-point lead into halftime, 28-13.
The Purple Knights won the battle of the boards outrebounding the Owls, 52-39.
Sophomore Briana Stoddart (Brooklyn, NY) led UB with 12 points. Sophomore Kadijah Dickson (Queens, NY) and senior Morgen Caution (Baltimore, MD) each contributed 10 points each, and Caution finished with a double-double, as she grabbed a game-high 16 rebounds, Jessica Fressle of SCSU led her team 19 points off the bench, and she also had 10 rebounds.
The UB women's basketball team is back in action at Jefferson University in Philadelphia on Wednesday, November 15. The contest will begin at 6:00 p.m.
