UB Women's Hoops Falls To St. Thomas Aquinas, 62-53, In ECC Championship Quarterfinals
Senior Camera Miley Finishes The Night As the Game's Leading Scorer With 19 Points
Sparkill, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team saw its 2016-17 season come to end in the East Coast Conference Championship Tournament Quarterfinals on Wednesday night at St. Thomas Aquinas College, as the visiting number-six seed, Purple Knights fell to the host, number three-seed, Lady Spartans, 62-53. UB finishes its season at 15-14, and STAC moves on the ECC Championship Tournament semifinals on Saturday in UB's Hubbell Gym to face number two-seed, Molloy College at 2:30 p.m., with a 19-10 record. The Purple Knights' 15 wins are a five victory improvement over last season.
Bridgeport led 12-5 after the first quarter and 27-24 at halftime, STAC outscored the Purple Knights, 25-7, in the third quarter to grab a 49-34 lead heading into the fourth quarter which they never relinquished.
Senior Camera Miley (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led UB and finished as the game's high-scorer with 19 points.
Sophomore Nicole Johnson (Newark, N.J.) grabbed a team-best eight rebounds for Bridgeport.
Alex Bertolino led three Lady Spartans in double-digit scoring with 14 points, and teammate Kaitlyn McCue grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds for the winners.
