Purple Knights Fall In Regular Season Women's Hoops Finale At UDC, 66-54
Purple Knights Earn Sixth Seed in 2017 ECC Championship Tournament As Daemen Falls At Roberts Wesleyan
Washington, D.C.-The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team closed out the 2016-17 regular season with a 66-54 loss to the University of the District of Columbia Firebirds in our Nation's Capital on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Purple Knights end their regular season at 15-13 overall and 9-9 in the ECC. The win snaps a 19-game losing streak for UDC, as the Firebirds finish off 2016-17 at 3-25 overall and 2-16 in conference play.
Even with the loss, the Purple Knights still managed to qualify for its first East Coast Conference Championship Tournament in four seasons, as Daemen College fell by one point at Roberts Wesleyan giving Bridgeport the sixth and final spot in the 2017 ECC Tournament. UB will travel to number three-seed St. Thomas Aquinas on Wednesday night for an ECC Quarterfinal contest.
Graduate student Anastasia Williams (Central Islip, N.Y.) led Bridgeport with a double-double off the bench on Saturday with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Senior Evelyn Ovner (Vallentuna, Sweden) also had 14 points for the Purple Knights.
Bridgeport committed 21 turnovers and hit only one of 16 three-point shots on the afternoon.
Shantrel Oliver led four UDC players in double figures with a game-high 19 points.
