Six Purple Knights Reach Double-Digit Scoring As UB Women's Hoops Picks Up Huge ECC Win Over LIU Post
UB Wins 81-76 And Now Controls Its Own Destiny For An ECC Championship Tournament Berth
Bridgeport, Conn.-All five starters reach double figures in the scoring column, and a total of six University of Bridgeport players finished in double digits, as the UB women's basketball team picked up a key home, 81-76, East Coast Conference win over the visiting LIU Post Pioneers on Wednesday night. The win, Bridgeport's third in a row and fourth in its last five games, raises the Purple Knights overall record 15-12, and more importantly, the team's conference mark is 9-8. Wednesday's victory gives Bridgeport control of its own destiny for a spot in the 2017 East Coast Conference Championship Tournament, as a win at the University of the District of Columbia in Saturday's 2016-17 regular season finale gives the Purple Knights a spot in the ECC's top six and a tournament berth.
LIU Post is now 11-16 overall and 7-10 in the ECC.
UB senior Camera Miley (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led all scorers in the game with 18 points. Miley was joined in double figures by starters, sophomore Nicole Johnson (Newark, N.J.) with 15 points, senior Evelyn Ovner (Vallentuna, Sweden) with 12 points, plus graduate student Anastasia Williams (Central Islip. N.Y.) and senior Louise Ovner (Vallentuna, Sweden), each had 11 points. Williams finished with a double-double, as she grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds.
Sophomore Samnell Vonleh (Swampscott, Mass,) rounded out the Bridgeport double-digit scorers contributing 10 points, and she fell just shy of a double-double collecting eight rebounds.
