Women's Hoops Opens 2017 With Home Loss To Queens (N.Y.) College
UB Now 8-7 Overall And 2-3 In The ECC
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team suffered its third consecutive setback on Wednesday night, as the Purple Knights fell to the visiting Queens (N.Y.) College Knights in an East Coast Conference contest. With the loss, UB is now 8-7 overall and 2-3 in conference play, and with the win, Queens is now11-3 overall and 5-1 in the ECC.
The Purple Knights finished the first half in fine style outscoring the visitors, 13-3, to end the second quarter, but opened the third quarter on runs of 7-0 and 11-2 to grab control of the game, as the Knights outscored Bridgeport by 20 points, 49-29, in the second half.
UB's Evelyn Ovner (Sr., Vallentuna, Sweden) picked up a double-double for the hots scoring 20 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.
Junior Aurelie Leblanc-Florent (Longueuil, Quebec, Canada) led Bridgeport in scoring with 21, plus teammate, graduate student Anastasia Williams (Central Islip, N.Y.) helped Ovner on the backboard grabbing 10 rebounds.
Queens College (N.Y.) Madison Rowland had a game-high 29 points for the winners, who four double-digit scorers.
Up next the UB women's basketball team visits Molloy College on Saturday, January 7 for another ECC tilt. Tipoff is set for 12:00 p.m.
