Purple Knights Nipped By St. Rose, 58-54, In Non-Conference Women's Hoops Action
UB Heads Into The Holiday Break At 8-5 Overall
Springfield, Mass.-The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team fell to the College of St. Rose Golden Knights on Sunday afternoon, 58-54, to wrap up play the American International College Holiday Classic. UB is now 8-5 overall, and St. Rose ups its overall mark to 6-5.
The Purple Knights got off to a slow start on Sunday trailing 8-0, and UB was behind, 16-7, after the first quarter. Bridgeport cut the Golden Knights' lead to only four at halftime, 27-23, and the contest was tied at 39-39 after three quarters.
The game was tied at 51-51 with 1:52 to play after UB's Samnell Vonleh (Swampscott, Mass.) hit a shot, but St. Rose finished play on a 7-3 run to pick up the victory.
Senior Aaliyah Mercer (Bronx, N.Y.) led the Bridgeport offense on Sunday scoring 19 points, and she also grabbed seven rebounds.
Junior Aurelie Leblanc-Florent (Logueuil, Quebec, Canada) had nine points, and senior Camera Miley (Brooklyn, N.Y.) had eight points and five assists for the Purple Knights.
Staci Barrett led St. Rose with a double-double of 19 points and 13 rebounds.
The UB women's basketball team will now take a Holiday Break. The Purple Knights return to game action at Adelphi University on Thursday, December 29 at 7:00 p.m.
