Women's Basketball Nets A Season-High 75 Points In Big Win Over Mercy
UB Tops the Visiting Mavericks, 75-40
Bridgeport, Conn-The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team dominated East Coast Conference rival the Mercy College Mavericks on Monday at home scoring a season-high 75 points in a 75-40 victory. The win ups UB's overall record to 9-17, and its conference mark to 7-11. Mercy falls to 6-20 and in 3-15 in the ECC.
The Purple Knights, who outscored the Mavericks in each quarter, took control of the game with an 11-0 run to end the first half to take a 26-20 lead into the locker room. In the fourth quarter, the Purple Knights went on a 19-0 run, as they out the game away by outscoring the visitors, 23-3, in the final stanza.
Nine different players scored on the night for Bridgeport led by freshman's Briana Stoddart (Brooklyn, N.Y.) game-high16 points. Also reaching double figures for the winners were freshman Kadijah Dickson (Queens, N.Y.) and sophomore Aurelie Leblanc-Florent (Longueuil, Quebec) each netted 13 points, and sophomore Sofia Ermeidou (Athens, Greece) completed the UB quartet in double digits with 11 points.
Sophomore Morgen Caution (Baltimore, Md.) was impressive in the paint for the winners grabbing a game-high 17 rebounds.
Cynthia Perez led Mercy with 12 points.
The UB women return to action on Wednesday, February 24 for Senior Night against St. Thomas Aquinas College. Game time is set for 5:00 p.m.
