Women's Basketball Outscores Host Dowling, 25-12, In The Fourth Quarter To Notch Big ECC Win
Purple Knights Top Host Golden Lions, 58-54
Oakdale, N.Y.-The visiting University of Bridgeport women's basketball team rallied to outscore the host Dowling College Golden Lions, 25-12, in the fourth quarter to pick up a big 58-54 East Coast Conference road win on Tuesday night on Long Island. The Purple Knights are now 8-15 overall, more importantly, 6-9 in conference play which puts them in the thick of the battle for a spot in this season's ECC Championship Tournament. Dowling falls to 2-10 overall and 2-14 in the ECC. The eight wins by the Purple Knights also surpass the team's victory totals of the past two seasons.
Bridgeport freshman Kadijah Dickson (Queens, N.Y.) scored nine for her 17 points on the night in the decisive fourth quarter. Dickson finished with an impressive double-double in the game with those 17 points and 15 rebounds. Teammate, junior Evelyn Ovner (Vallentuna, Sweden) also scored 17 points for the winners and finished with a double-double grabbing 10 boards.
Freshman Briana Stoddart (Brooklyn, N.Y.) netted 12 points of the UB bench; seven of which came in the fourth quarter.
Junior Louise Ovner (Vallentuna, Sweden) had double-digit rebounds to help the Purple Knights' to the victory with 10 rebounds.
Kristina Surlan led Dowling with 15 points and eight rebounds.
The UB women's basketball team will look to continue its winning ways on Thursday night in another important ECC road game versus Molloy College. Game time is set for 5:00 p.m.
