Purple Knights Lead At The Half But Fall To UDC, 67-56, In ECC Women's Hoops
UB Back In Action On Tuesdyt At Dowling
Bridgeport, Conn.- The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team held a one-point halftime lead, but the Purple Knights fell short of a home East Coast Conference win on Saturday afternoon, dropping a 56-67 decision against the University of the District of Columbia's firebirds. UB is now to 7-15 overall and 5-9 in conference play. The Firebirds increase their overall record to 18-6 and are 13-3 in the ECC.
Bridgeport ended the first half strong, outscoring the visitors, 20-13, in the second quarter to grab a 27-26 halftime. UDC would turn the tables on their hosts outscoring the Purple Knights by four points in the third quarter and eight points in the fourth to take the 11-point victory.
UB sophomore Aurelie Leblanc-Florent (Longueuil, Quebec, Canada) led all scorers on the afternoon with18 points, and she was joined in double figures by freshman Nicole Johnson (Newark, N.J.) with 10 points. Freshman Kadijah Dickson (Queens, N.Y.) had a team-high 10 rebounds and also dished eight assists for the Purple Knights.
Brandi Henton led three UDC players in double figures 17 points.
The Bridgeport women's basketball team returns to the action next Tuesday, February 16 on the road against Dowling College. Game time for the ECC match-up is set for 5:00 pm.
