UB Outscores LIUP, 18-10, In Fourth Quarter To Grab The Victory
Brookville, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team outscored the host LIU Post Pioneers, 18-10, in the fourth quarter to grab a 58-52 road win in the Purple Knights' 2015-16 East Coast Conference opener on Long Island on Wednesday night. UB is now 3-4 overall and 1-0 in conference play. LIU Post slips to 1-7 overall and 1-2 in the ECC.
The visiting Purple Knights picked up the win even though the team connected on only three total field goals in the second half and shot only 23,2 percent from the floor for the entire game. As cold as UB was from the floor, the team excelled from the foul line hitting 29 of 34 free throws (85.3%).
Freshmen Nicole Johnson (Newark, N.J.) and Kadijah Dickson (Queens, N.Y.) led Bridgeport in scoring, as they each had 12 points. Johnson was a perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line, and Dickson knocked down eight of 10 free three throws.
Sophomore Aurelie Leblanc-Florent (Longueuil, Quebec, Canada) also reached double-digit scoring for the winners netting 10 points, all of which came in the first half.
UB sophomore Morgen Caution (Baltimore, Md.) fell just shy of a double-double with nine points and 10 rebounds, and Bridgeport junior Louise Ovner (Vallentuna, Sweden) led all players in the game with 11 rebounds, and she also chipped in eight points.
LIU Post's Jalyn Brown led all scorers on the night with 17 points.
