Women's Hoops Ends 2014-15 Season With 62-61 Upset Of Queens
Tiara Aziz Scores Her Team's Final 10 Points To Help Grab The Win
Flushing, N.Y.-UB senior Tiara Aziz (Easton, Pa.) closed out her career in fine style scoring her team's final 10 points, eight of which came from the foul line, to help the University of Bridgeport women's basketball to an upset, 62-61, road win over the host Queens (N.Y.) College Knights on Saturday afternoon. Aziz, who finished the afternoon as the game's high scorer with 18 points, hit two free throws with four second to play to give the Purple Knights a 62-61 lead and the win when a desperation shot by QC could not find the mark. On the afternoon, Tiara went 11-of-12 from the free throw line. The Knights had taken a 61-60 lead with 22 to play when Madison Rowland connected on a hoop to set up Aziz' heroics. Bridgeport closes out the 2014-15 season on a three-game, and the Purple Knights finished the year at 7-21 overall and 5-15 in the East Coast Conference. Queens, ranked number five in the East Region of NCAA Division II Women's Basketball, is now 20-7 overall and 15-5 in the ECC.
Aziz, who fell just short of a double-double grabbing nine rebounds, was joined in double figures by junior Shannon Holt (Holden, Mass.) who scored 13 points for the winners.
Kristen Korzevinski led Queens with 15 points.
