Women's Basketball Holds On For 66-62 Home Win Over Queens
Aziza Patterson Leads Purple Knights With 22 Points
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team never trailed on the afternoon and held on at the end for a 66-62 home East Coast Conference win over the visiting Queens (N.Y.) College Knights on Saturday afternoon. The Purple Knights led by 12 points, 60-48, with 4:01 to play but the visitors stormed back to cut the Purple Knights' lead to only two points, 64-62, with 12 seconds to go before sophomore Jenna Hoffman (Manchester Center, Vt.) iced the game with two made free throws with nine second to play. With the victory, Bridgeport is now 15-8 overall and 10-5 in the ECC. Queens slips to 9-12 overall and 6-8 in conference action.
Junior Aziza Patterson (Teaneck, N.J.) led UB with 22 points on the day, and she also dished off six assists and made four steals.
Patterson was joined in double-digit scoring by graduate student Priscilla Dodoo (Worcester, Mass.) with 13 points, senior Tanisha Carter (E. Hartford, Conn.) with 12 points and freshman Danielle Dorsett (Waterbury, Conn.) with 10 points. Dodoo led Bridgeport on the boards with eight rebounds.
Queens' Bria Jackson led all scorers in the game with 23 points.
The UB women's basketball team is back in action next Saturday, February 23 when they travel to Sparkill, N.Y. for a key East Coast Conference tilt at St. Thomas Aquinas.
