UB Women's Hoops Edges UDC On The Road, 53-51
Win Is Team's Fifth In A Row
Washington, D.C.-The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team picked up its fifth win in a row and seventh triumph in the squad's last eight outings with a narrow 53-51 East Coast Conference road victory over the host University of the District of Columbia Firebirds in our Nation's Capital on Wednesday evening. With the win, the Purple Knights are now 13-6 overall and 8-3 in the ECC. UDC falls to 7-13 overall and 2-8 in conference play.
UB trailed 49-48 with 2:30 to play before Priscilla Dodoo (Grad., Worcester, Mass.) split two free throws to tie the game with 1:55 remaining, and senior Tanisha Carter (E. Hartford, Conn.) hit a jumper with 1:40 to play to give Bridgeport a 51-49 lead which they never relinquished, as Carter iced the win with two made free throws with 16 seconds to play. UDC made a basket at the buzzer to make the final score, 53-51.
Dodoo and Carter both netted 14 points to lead all scorers on the night, and they both excelled on the boards, as Dodoo grabbed a game-high 17 rebounds to finish with a double-double, and Carter finished with nine rebounds, six of which came on the offensive glass.
Robin Keke led the Firebirds with 11 points on the night.
UB raced out to a 26-17 halftime lead, as the Purple Knights outscored UDC, 13-3, over the final 6:09 of the first half.
Up next, the UB women's basketball team travels to Long Island on Saturday afternoon, February 2 to face conference co-leader Dowling College. Tip-off is set for 1:00 p.m.
