Fast Start Helps Women's Basketball To Wire-To-Wire, 58-43, Home Win Over UDC
Purple Knights Race Out To 17-0 Lead And Never Look Back As UB Snaps Two-Game Skid
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team raced out to a 17-0 lead to start the game and never looked back, as the Purple Knights snapped a two-game losing streak with a wire-to-wire 58-43 home East Coast Conference win over the University of the District of Columbia Firebirds on Saturday afternoon. With the win, UB is now 6-2 overall and 1-1 in the ECC. UDC is an even 4-4 overall and 0-1 in conference action.
Senior Tanisha Carter (East Hartford, Conn.) led Bridgeport in scoring as she finished with a game-high 21 points. Carter was joined in double figures by graduate student Priscilla Dodoo (Worcester, Mass.) with 15 points, and sophomore Jenna Hoffman (Manchester Center, Vt.) who netted 12 points in her first start of the 2012-13 season.
Senior Marie Biondi (West Haven, Conn.) led the Purple Knights on the glass with nine rebounds, and junior Aziza Patterson (Teaneck, N.J.) dished out a game-high five assists for UB.
The Bridgeport defense was outstanding on Saturday holding UDC to a season-low for a Purple Knights' opponent 43 points. The Firebirds committed 23 turnovers and shot only 24.3 percent (18 of 74) from the floor.
Tajruba Baldwin-Kollore led the Firebirds on the day, as she amassed a double-double with a team-high 11 points and 10 rebounds.
The Bridgeport women are back in action after final exams on Wednesday, December 19 when they continue a four-game homestand with a non-conference game versus American International College. Tip-off is Hubbell Gym is set for 6:00 p.m.
