Ice-Cold Start Dooms Women's Basketball At Stonehill
Purple Knights Suffer First Loss Of The Season, 60-49
Easton, Mass.-The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team could not overcome an ice-cold start as the Purple Knights missed their first 15 field goal attempts and never led in the game, as UB (5-1) suffered its first loss of the 2012-13 season at the hands of the host Stonehill College Skyhawks, 60-49, on Sunday afternoon. Stonehill remains perfect on the season at 5-0. The 49 points scored are a season low for Bridgeport.
Senior Tanisha Carter (East Hartford, Conn.) led the Purple Knights and all scorers in the game with 18 points. Carter was joined in double-figure scoring by sophomore Jenna Hoffman (Manchester Center, Vt.) with 13 points, and graduate student Priscilla Dodoo (Worcester, Mass.), a former Skyhawk, was just shy of a double-double grabbing a game-high 11 rebounds and scoring nine points.
Asia Ewing and Amy Pelletier led a balanced Stonehill attack as they each scored 13 points.
The UB women's basketball team is back in action on Saturday, December 1 when the Purple Knights close out a four-game road trip with the team's 2012-13 East Coast Conference opener at LIU Post. Tip-off on Long Island is set for 1:30 p.m.
